A wonderful short tour into the Eifel: The shortest route is to Dernau, after a good two hours you have a view of the Ahr valley and Dernau. On the opposite side of the mountain you can already see the Krausberg Tower - that's where it goes up. After the beautiful descent from the Dernauer vineyard, it then goes short and crisp on 2.25 km with 200 m of altitude to the Krausberg. Here you could climb the Krausberg tower or you can turn around directly, via Altenahr, Kreuzberg and Krälingen (3.25 km 185 m altitude) it goes back towards Cologne.
The outward route is now optimized to avoid Wesseling.
At the moment (as of 10.10.2021) the route cannot be driven in this way, because since the flood in July 2021, the road to Altenahr shortly before Altenahr is impassable. The way to the Krausberg and up the Krausberg works, but then you have to go back the way you came.
