Photo equipment for the trip

Since my "travel photo equipment" is proving its worth again on vacation in Vietnam, here is the short description of it: The Nikon D850 with only one lens, namely the Nikon 24-120mm 1:4 as the "main camera" and as a supplement the Panasonic Lumix Travelerzoom TZ-202. In this combination, this has now proven itself on some trips.

The Nikon D850 is probably the best all-round camera at the moment (see e.g. DPReview) and with a resolution of 45.7 megapixels there are endless reserves. The 24-120mm f/4 lens doesn't come off quite as well in the relevant tests, but it's still my favorite lens when I have to limit myself to one lens. It offers decent wide-angle up to small telephoto. In combination, the D850+ lens is naturally large and heavy.

I usually carry the camera with a loop of Peak-Design or hang it on my backpack with the "Spider Light Backpacker". This is very practical for hikes/trekking tours. But if the path becomes more difficult, the camera still has to go in the backpack, otherwise it's too unsafe.

At this point, or if you just want a small camera on a city walk, the second camera, the Lumix TZ-202 "Traveller Zoom", comes into play: The Lumix is a compact camera that fits in a jacket pocket (not in your trouser pocket) or can simply be attached to your backpack. It has a lens with a huge zoom range (24-360mm full-frame) and can therefore also help out if more telephoto focal length is needed. It has a relatively large 1-inch image sensor, i.e. the image quality is much better than "standard" compact cameras, but of course still significantly worse than the Nikon.

In addition to the image quality, the Nikon has another advantage: With Nikon SnapBridge, a constant connection with the smartphone is maintained, through which the images are transmitted in small resolution to the smartphone in the background. During the next break, you can publish photos directly on Instagram & Co. Very handy! With the Lumix, this is only possible as usual via an app, where each image is selected for transfer and then transferred. In addition, Nikon writes the GPS coordinates from the smartphone to the image data while taking pictures. This is also very practical and works reliably.
