I've been on Flickr since 2006 and have over 11000 photos there. I've remained loyal to the service despite all the prophecies of doom, now Flickr has been sold to SmugMug.

I still remember how I looked at Flickr - on vacation in Crete, there was at least bad Wi-Fi at the square in Georgioupolis. At the time, Flickr was the epitome of the "Web 2.0" wave, i.e. web presences that allow immediate feedback and interaction from users. I was thrilled. However, I have always used Flickr mainly for sharing photos, less so the "social" components. And this still works very well today, although there has been no further development at Flickr for years. Also on this website I incorporate my Flickr photo in several places. By the way, Flickr is also the only web service I know that allows you to integrate the photos into your own website in a really "responsive" way. The others only offer simple iframe.

Flickr belonged to Yahoo and they have famously disappeared from the scene. Now, SmugMug, a photo-sharing service, has bought Flickr. I didn't know them at all, they look good. Seems like they're doing exactly what I use Flickr for... The only question now is how Flickr fits in with the new owner. In any case, they also know something about photos and I think Flickr can only do that good. And hopefully it will still exist for the next 12 years ...
